Organize academic advising around specific credit thresholds

Two-year to four-yearappliesFour-year to two-yearappliesFour-year to four-yearapplies

Mechanism

Advising is required at set credit counts, so a student who has drifted gets corrected before registering for another wrong course. It also forces one real conversation before the transfer deadlines pass.

Preconditions

An academic tracking system that can place a hold or send a notice at set credit points, say 15, 30 and 45.

Owner, by role

Director of Academic Advising

Who can act

One institution alone

Effort

Medium, 6 months to first visible effect

Outcome metric

Share of completed credits that apply to the transfer major

Failure modes

Large advising caseloads can lead to rushed, check-the-box meetings that do not address long-term transfer feasibility or career goals.

Contra-indications

High-performing students with verified academic plans may experience these holds as an unnecessary bureaucratic barrier.
